The Nativity Story With Young Children

The Advent season carries with it so much beauty and richness, tradition, joy and wonder. At the same time and for a lot of people, alongside those experiences come weariness, grief, burnout, and the mounting pressure to “do it all”. This is oft how life is in reality – sitting on the fence where joy and grief meet; where hope and burnout coincide; where wanting to “do it all” and being met with our own limitations to do so becoming glaringly obvious. Even the pressure to “quit doing it all” and be “present” with our children seems to mount – and unrightly so.

My hope is that when you find yourself in those places where the “opposites” of life seem to meet together in your heart, that you look for Jesus. Not in a condemning way – Jesus did not come to condemn any of us. The voice of “should’s and shame” is not the voice of God. But rather in a sigh of searching – “Jesus, where are you in this?” Offer Him your joy and your grief. Sit with your weariness and the richness of this season as they meet, but don’t stop there — do it in the presence of God. Ask the hard questions and simultaneously ask the Holy Spirit to be your guide through it. Awaken to His light within you and remind yourself of the truth found in His Word.

Perhaps this seems like a deep introduction for a fun scavenger hunt. It is – and rightly so. Most of us find ourselves having to come to terms with some form of heaviness or weariness in this season.

I wrote this scavenger hunt to be a fun and easy way to both share the story with your children and to help you experience joy as a family while doing so. This is meant to be easy and fun. It is fun to lead and simple to set up. I have this available on Etsy for purchase, but if that won’t work for you, just click the download link below to receive it for free. I hope this blesses you and your family.
